Monitor and Control Scans
You can monitor the status of your classification scans from multiple places in Transcend, including an cross-system overview on the Classification > Browse Data Systems page, and individual system views in Integrations and Data System Profiles.
Scan statuses include: In Progress, Paused, Completed, and Error. (Check out this article for a guide to troubleshooting common scan errors.)
- To view all data systems with scans currently In Progress
- Navigate to Classification > Browse Data Systems
- Click the In Progress quick filter
- For an individual In Progress scan, you can monitor its progress from the Most Recent Scan widget using the duration (elapsed time) of the scan so far. The Most Recent Scan widget can be found on the Data System Overview page for that system, or on the Scan Configuration tab in Integrations.

We know that scans sometimes need adjustments. On any In Progress scan, you can Pause, Stop, or Restart from the Most Recent Scan widget. This widget can be found on the the Integration > Scan Configuration tab and the Classification > Data System Overview page for that system.
-
Pausing a scan saves your progress, and allows you to Resume the scan when you're ready.
- Use this option if you want to make changes to your data system internally.
- Note: If recurring scans are on, the next scheduled scan will not start, and the current scan will not resume until you choose to resume. Changes made to optional configurations will not take effect until the next scan.
-
Stopping a scan saves info discovered and/or classified so far, without begining a new scan. Any new Ad-Hoc or scheduled scan will start from the beginning, rescanning the same data.
- Use this option if you need to make immediate changes to the scan type or optional configurations, instead of waiting for the next scan.
-
Restarting a scan deletes the classifications made so far, and immediately starts a new scan from the beginning.
- Use this option if you have made changes to your classification regexes, and wish to immediately reclassify the data. Learn more about improving your custom classifications here: add link.
Note on Updating Scan Configuration
If a scan is currently In Progress or Paused, updates to the scan configuration will not take effect until a new scan starts. If you wish the updates to take effect immediately, you can Restart the scan from the beginning.
